Gameplay features

Sandbox play

The game is built for sandbox play. It’s about providing you interesting choices to make, not guiding you down a set path. Huge emphasis on exploration, building, player choice, and responding to randomness.

Base-building, defending, & repairing

Random encounters can now show up at your doorstep! Need to miss a game session? Characters can chill at base and be useful!

Solo, Gm-less, & Group play

The game doesn’t just support Solo and GM-less play, it’s baked into the game as how it is meant to be played. Base defense “raids,” one-shot side adventures based on your characters’ jobs, and shorter stories about characters you meet in your travels that enrich the story — it’s all built into the same system! Never worry about the GM missing a game session again!

Save and reload your game

This fantastic feature of video games is now a feature of TTRPGs! Died in a stupid way? No problem. Want to see if you could take that knight in combat? Do it. This is a game, after all, and the primary purpose of a game is to have fun, right?

If you want the hardcore experience, it’s there, too.

scalable simulation

A work-based core system makes the game a scalable simulator. If you need to calculate something at any scale, you can. But don’t worry! It’s all been simplified into some easy-to-use code-powered interfaces. You will need Microsoft Excel and Word, however (or Numbers/Pages on Mac).

Short & Long play

Don’t have two years of Friday nights to dedicate to a game? No problem! Play with your friends in one-shots with game setup times as fast as chess! All stories live in the same persistent world, so each time you play the experience gets richer!

Three scale factors drive all mechanics

Want to start your game with an epic battle like the Lord of the Rings? Why not? The game is built for this. Want to keep things small and never leave your house? The game makes this fun, too. Really! Try it!

Three Types of Rolls — that’s it

Replace your overly complicated gaming system with an elegant, beautiful, system that neither coddles nor oversimplifies. Your Standard Roll is three dice: the Divine d20, your Talent Die, and the Magic d6. Players use this pretty much always. The GM will frequently use a Simulation Roll to assist in improv storytelling. When time passes, everyone will use Upkeep Rolls to see what happens. There, you learned the game mechanics in five seconds!

Dice-based mathematics

Super Maps & Legends embraces the power of computers, but hat doesn’t mean it requires computers. All the math is based on dice. Can’t pay your electrical bill? No problem. Analog it.

Character
features

Create and name your own class

Gone are the days of 7 or 12 lonely classes - just make your character and it will be totally unique! It’s easy and balanced! There’s nothing quite like having an Arcane Knight or Blood Assassin instead of a Fighter or Rogue, you know?

Character books not sheets

Sheets are for sissies. We give you a digital Character Book with a cover that you can put your character art on big and bold. It can hold any number of characters, and all their gear, assets, and stories! Character books can have art galleries, adventure journals, and anything else! It is made with beautiful SuperMNL-created templates for Microsoft Word or Apple Pages.

Universal character creation

And of course that system is fully customizable but also fully generate-able and simulate-able! This means you can marry anyone, have kids, recruit anyone, steal from anyone, etc, and it all follows the same rules.

Generate any number of characters for any situation

Your only limitation is your computing power. A 2020 Macbook Air M1 can generate 10,000 characters in about 15.5 minutes running on battery power! Set your filters for what nation, race, class, etc., and press start! Then use the Tweaker to adjust any specifics, or the Simulator to give them some stories!

slot-based inventory makes things simple

The same basic inventory system is used for characters, vehicles, bases, buildings, organizations, and countries. It keeps managing the details simple and symbolic.

role-based skills & trait-based Abilities

Ever wanted an intelligence-based fighter or a strength-based cleric? Now you can! The only limit is whether you can get your GM and fellow players to believe your build is plausible!

breakdowns!

Your characters are living entities that you do not fully control. If you push too hard they will push back! A breakdown takes the character out of your control while they pout, throw a tantrum, or wander off. You’ll want to manage your Trauma carefully to avoid breakdowns… but it’s sometimes inevitable.

Craft magic items & write your own spells

Tinker, craft potions, and much more as one of 10 distinct magic-user roles! (Classes can include a variety of roles, so multi-class is a breeze!)

Make your own special abilities

At each level up, each character gets a new special ability. You generate the “prompts” randomly, but how it gets interpreted into game mechanics is entirely up to you! Of course, the GM will review and approve it to maintain balance.

Don’t kill - rehabilitate!

Violence not your thing? That’s legit. Take your enemies prisoners and slowly make your enemies your friends — even colleagues! While a prisoner, however, they always pose a threat of escaping…

world-building features

AN infinite map

Your world is is hand-drawn from a single dot. Discover as you go! Bored? There is always something new at the edge of the map! It’s called the Infinite Canvas. (Looking at you, Daniel Lieske!)

AN economy & Regional events simulator

It’s is easy to use can handle any number of economies. Each economy is impacted by war, each other, and other regional events!

a persistent, living world

Visit locations months, years, and decades later and see the effects of player choices over time on other characters, cities, and nations!

Multi-layered world

It the infinite Canvas wasn’t enough, there’s the Deep, which is everything underground, and the ___ Realm, where you name it, like Fey Realm, Shadow Realm, Spirit Realm, or Mirror Realm. These two additional map layers are physically tied to your Overland Map at key points, like cave entrances or magical nodes.

Darkness is deadly

The fear of what comes out at night is a never-ending theme. Even high level characters are not spared. It’s just the way life is.

factions, factions, factions!

Your players will create their own faction. A robust, easy-to-use faction management system is included. They may abandon their faction and start a new game — but all creations that are “released” from stewardship by players return to the Great Simulator. It’s entirely possible your player’s old characters, factions, animals, and items, will find their way into the rest of the world simulation.
